Should you have more please let us know and we will endeavor to answer them.
How long did the Turning last?
Based on conservative pandemic models, most of the human population was turned in approximately a year. As there were no vampires interested enough in statistics to document the history of the Turning, we can only go by the numbers estimates of the Free Human Republic of Australia’s government, whose claims cannot be verified.
How long can a vampire go without blood/blood substitute before they “starve”?
Vampires cannot starve to true death, but enter a deep stasis without sustenance after approximately a fortnight. This is an average as more powerful vampires can last much longer, the longest recorded being Charles Van Claes, who went 87 days on a dare from Ethan Vandervere in October of 1573. Vandervere notably refused to reawaken Van Claes until 1789, and only then as a favor to Lorens Danner, who needed to ask Van Claes where he left the key to his wine cellar.
Can a vampire still eat normal food?
They can. But given their enhanced senses, they prefer not to as they taste flavors far too subtle for the human palette, such as the remnants of feces in water. They do enjoy sweets, however, and are especially fond of lemon drops, crème-filled pastries and jammie dodgers. They also love alcoholic beverages of all kinds (alcohol killing the poo taste in things).
Roughly how long after the Turning was the SynthPlasma made?
SynthPlasma has already been developed by human scientists for use in third world hospitals. The Elders had been experimenting with consumption for over a decade, notably mixing it with the blood of the living to test the amounts of each necessary to survive and thrive. Full production began within the first year of the Turning.
How common was it for older vampires to take on new vampires as apprentices (teaching them how to control themselves, feed discreetly, etc.)? How did the Turning affect this?
Not very. It was actually frowned upon as it was believed that some fool would turn a human who would think it a fine idea to turn the world. After the Turning, older vampires made it a point not to tell the new ones a single thing about how to use their powers.
Are the older vampires essentially a ruling class in the current world? Presumably they’d have lots of money.
Power derives from power, as does money. So yes and yes.
How much actual blood does a vampire have to drink for their eyes to go red? Or start turning red? Does animal blood count for that, or just human blood?
Any actual human blood will do.
Do vampires who were sired as teenagers/children age to the point where they look like adults, or do they just stay as they are?
They just stay as they are. Very few children were turned because of this. It’s just too creepy. The few children who were turned were disposed of because of the creepiness. No one needs to see that.
Have the animal populations managed to recover at all in the 200+ years since the Turning?
The small mammal population flourished, as did the populations of Canadian geese, which are thought to number over 10 million. Some vampires have actually survived by traveling beneath the immense flocks of geese that regularly travel hither and yon, carpeting much of the world in geese poop, which has proven to be an excellent fertilizer.
Are there no laws now regarding vampires killing other vampires, or does Ethan just do what he wants because he’s not going to get into real trouble for it since he’s a cop?
There are laws against it. Information regarding Ethan Vandervere’s involvement with law enforcement is currently classified.
What made Ethan become a cop in the first place?
Information regarding Ethan Vandervere’s involvement with law enforcement is currently classified.
Since Ethan’s lived for (presumably) a very very long time, what’s his favourite time period?
He was especially fond of the French Revolution. He has often claimed some measure of responsibility for it. His claims cannot be proven (nor can they be disproven).
Did he travel much in all that time he’s been alive? If so, what country was his favourite to visit?
Indeed! He spent many years in Bohemia, enough to call it home for centuries.
What conditions must be met for a human to turn into a vampire? Is it non-lethal bite only, or is a bloodswap also necessary?
A human can only turn if they consume vampire blood. They need not lose any of their own. Vampires tend to drink the blood of the humans they turn because they are hungry.
Why exactly did Allen bite the vampire that bit him?
Vampire blood is intoxicating and irresistible to humans.
Does drinking doper blood get vampires high in any way?
Human blood is ‘flavored’ with the current emotion of its donor at the time of the draw. Consuming it is the closest vampires can come to experiencing those emotions which can produce a kind of high.
How do the sellers get ahold of human blood if it’s forbidden for vampires to enter human safe zones and forbidden for humans to leave?
Information regarding the production and sale of human blood is strictly classified.
What are all of a normal vampire’s weaknesses in this universe?
The first vampire was ‘created’ by Darius I of Persia in 519 BC, who may or may not have knowingly crucified a minion of the Fallen Ones who, upon begging for relief, was rewarded with limited immortality requiring regular replenishment of blood, a deadly intolerance to the light of day and an allergy to silver and religious depictions of crosses (which was a joke played on the minion by the Fallen One who granted the relief - Fallen Ones are notable for their wicked sense of humor and inability to stop eating Fig Newtons until the entire package has been consumed). True death can only result from full sun exposure, beheading or staking of the heart.
What weaknesses are “half vampires” immune to?
Sun exposure does not result in immediate true death, but instead causes a really bad rash. Please contact Allen Daley for more information about said rash. He will be happy to tell you about it in excruciating detail.
